I can typically fill up a large black yard bag with grass clippings at this time of year. Today, I halfway filled up a plastic Wal-Mart grocery sack. It’s HOT! And my yard is oh, so dry.
You can still see some fairly green patches – some the natural grass closer to the house and then patches of weeds.
Here it comes!!
“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”
Psalms 91:1 NLT
The grass closest to the house is making it because it receives some shade….the shadow of our house….and it gets a reprieve from the blazing sun.
The other green patches – even in the middle of the parched grass – are weeds. Check out this response when I googled “Can weeds thrive in dry conditions?”
ANSWER:
“Yes, some weeds thrive in drought conditions, particularly drought-tolerant species like Kochia and perennial weeds, which can establish themselves even when moisture is limited. These weeds often have adaptations that allow them to survive and compete effectively in dry environments.”
So – things can stay healthy and vibrant when they stay close to The Shelter.
But other things can thrive and compete when everything gets dry.
Friend – DO NOT MISS THIS!
It’s so important that, in times of drought – which we will all have, FYI – we are intentional about staying close to the Lord. His church. His people. It may take more effort because droughts are depleting – but what’s the alternative?
It’s easy for weeds to take root when it’s dry. They continue to suck the life out of you and deplete you as they compete for what’s left. If you don’t intentionally address “weeds” and their root systems, don’t be surprised when you have discouragement, relational discord, anxiety, workplace friction, and unreasonable stress.
There is a better way!
In the heat (of life), STAY CLOSE. He will shelter you and still allow you to grow as you rest in Him. (That last photo is the proof!)
